SGGS Ang 1096
Raag Maroo
Pauri no 5, Maru Ki Vaar M.5.
This is the first Shandh (Shapay Shandh) of Jaap Sahib. In essence, the Shandh speaks of the Formless and awesome Infinite nature of God in every aspect.
This forms the introduction to the Shabad at Angg 1096, which is the 5th pauri of Maru ki Vaar M.5.
Just as in Jaap Sahib, the 1st line of the pauri says You are Formless and have no Shape nor Social Class or Race; mortals think You are far away but You are actually “jahra,” Present in front (and everywhere) of all.
“Tudh roop na rekhiya jaat tu varna bahra: eh maanas jaane duur Tu varte jahraa.”
Although You are the Relisher in every heart no filth sticks to You; You are the Blissful and Infinite Primal Lord and Your Jote pervades all.
“Tu sabh ghat bhogay Aap Tudh lep na lahraa; Tu Purakh Anandi Anant sabh Jote samahraa.”
You are the most Divine among all divinity; You are the Architect of destiny of all; how can my single tongue adore You enough, You are Eternal, Imperishable and Infinite.
“Tu sabh deva me Dev Bidhatey Narhara; Kya aradhay jihva Ek Tu Abhinasi Aparpara ”
One who You Yourself unite with the True Guru – all his generations are saved; all Your servants serve You; Nanak is a humble servant at Your Door.
“Jis melhe Satgur Aap tis ke sabh kul taraa; sewak sabh karde sev Dar Nanak jan Tera”

Bhai Ji further elaborated on October 4, 2026:
We are repeatedly told in Gurbani, that the Lord is Nirankar, Formless.
He can only be accessed through the Shabad of a Satguru. In fact, Gurbani says He is Latent in the Shabad of the Satguru, and cannot be found by any other means, ritual, or method.
“Gur Shabad samahve avar na jaane koye jio.” (Ang 923).
Apart from He being Formless, His Naam is also Formless. “Naao Tera Nirankar hai….” (Ang 465).
This means the Lord is Unseen, and, operates Unseen, too.
In this Pauri, Guru Arjun Dev addresses Nirankar Ji directly and says
“Tudh roop na rekhiya jaat Tu varna bahra.”
You have no form or physical feature, nor social class or caste.
Guru Ji then goes on to describe various other delightful aspects of this Formless One.
(The irony of things is that He operates Unseen right in front of everyone, yet the mortals think He is far away).
“Eh maanas jaane duur Tu Varte Jahra”
