Raag Majh – Bara Maha
Jeth in Punjabi means eldest.
Guru Ramdas Ji was known as Bhai Jetha Ji before He was Anointed as Satguru by Guru Amardas Ji. Bhai Jetha Ji was the first born in His family.
In the context of Bara Maha, Jeth means the longest month. As the astrologers and astronomers calculated time, they placed any odd half day or more to the month of Jeth to complete their calculations.
In Gurbani, Guru Ji uses the word Jeth to refer to the month as well as to God, who is after all the Biggest and Mightiest of all.
Thus Bara Maha for the month of Jeth starts with the declaration that Har Jeth – God is the Mightiest, and all seek Union with, and all must bow down before Him.
“Har Jeth jorunda lorhiye jis Agge Sabh Nivann”
One who clasps tightly to the Hem of His Robe (Naam), can never be put into any bondage by anyone.
“Har Sajjan Daawan lagiya kisse na deyi bann”
These precious jewels (of Naam) can never be stolen.
“Maanak Moti Naam Prabh honh lagge nahi sann.”
You will enjoy the Love of the Lord and your wishes will be fulfilled.
“Rang sabhe Narainaye jete mann bhavann.”
As the Lord Wishes, He Does, and all act according to His Will
“Jo Har lorhe so Kare soyee jee karann.”
Those whom the Lord makes as His Own are the truly blessed
“Jo Prabh kiteh Apne seyi kehiye dhann.”
If one could Meet the Lord by his own efforts, why should they be crying about their separation?
“Aapan liya je milhe vichorh kyo rowann”
As one is blessed to do Sadh Sanggat she gets His Love.
“Sadhu Sang parapte Nanak Rang Maanann”
In the month of Jeth, if one has great destiny written upon his forehead, the Loving Lord, Playfully Sports with her.
“Har Jeth Rangila Tis Dhanni Jis Ke Bhaag Mathann.”
