ਭੈਰਉ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
Bhairao, Fifth Mehla:

ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਕਉ ਦੀਨਾ ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਦੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ,
Mankind is afflicted with the disease of egotism.

ਕਾਮ ਰੋਗਿ ਮੈਗਲੁ ਬਸਿ ਲੀਨਾ ॥
ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸਨਾ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਨੇ ਹਾਥੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।
The disease of sexual desire overwhelms the elephant.

ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਰੋਗਿ ਪਚਿ ਮੁਏ ਪਤੰਗਾ ॥
(ਦੀਵੇ ਦੀ ਲਾਟ ਨੂੰ) ਵੇਖਣ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਪਤੰਗੇ (ਦੀਵੇ ਦੀ ਲਾਟ ਉਤੇ) ਸੜ ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Because of the disease of vision, the moth is burnt to death.

ਨਾਦ ਰੋਗਿ ਖਪਿ ਗਏ ਕੁਰੰਗਾ ॥੧॥
(ਘੰਡੇ ਹੇੜੇ ਦੀ) ਆਵਾਜ਼ (ਸੁਣਨ) ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਹਿਰਨ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
Because of the disease of the sound of the bell, the deer is lured to its death. ||1||

ਜੋ ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਸੋ ਰੋਗੀ ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਜੀਵ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸੇ ਨ ਕਿਸੇ ਰੋਗ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।
Whoever I see is diseased.

ਰੋਗ ਰਹਿਤ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜੋਗੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
(ਅਸਲ) ਜੋਗੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ (ਸਭ) ਰੋਗਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Only my True Guru, the True Yogi, is free of disease. ||1||Pause||

ਜਿਹਵਾ ਰੋਗਿ ਮੀਨੁ ਗ੍ਰਸਿਆਨੋ ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੀਭ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਮੱਛੀ ਫੜੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,
Because of the disease of taste, the fish is caught.

ਬਾਸਨ ਰੋਗਿ ਭਵਰੁ ਬਿਨਸਾਨੋ ॥
ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ (ਫੁੱਲ ਦੀ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਲੈਣ ਦੇ ਰਸ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ) ਭੌਰਾ (ਫੁੱਲ ਵਿਚ ਮੀਟਿਆ ਜਾ ਕੇ) ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Because of the disease of smell, the bumble bee is destroyed.

ਹੇਤ ਰੋਗ ਕਾ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਹੋਇਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ,
The whole world is caught in the disease of attachment.

ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਰੋਗ ਮਹਿ ਬਧੇ ਬਿਕਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਣੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੀਵ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।
In the disease of the three qualities, corruption is multiplied. ||2||

ਰੋਗੇ ਮਰਤਾ ਰੋਗੇ ਜਨਮੈ ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਿਸੇ ਨ ਕਿਸੇ ਆਤਮਕ) ਰੋਗ ਵਿਚ (ਫਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ) ਹੀ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
In disease the mortals die, and in disease they are born.

ਰੋਗੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਭਰਮੈ ॥
(ਕਿਸੇ ਨ ਕਿਸੇ ਆਤਮਕ) ਰੋਗ ਵਿਚ (ਗ੍ਰਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ) ਹੀ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ,
In disease they wander in reincarnation again and again.

ਰੋਗ ਬੰਧ ਰਹਨੁ ਰਤੀ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
ਉਸ ਰੋਗ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੀ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਰੋਗ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ (ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਭਟਕਣ ਤੋਂ ਰਤਾ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ।
Entangled in disease, they cannot stay still, even for an instant.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਰੋਗੁ ਕਤਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੩॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਇਹ) ਰੋਗ ਕਿਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭੀ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ।੩।
Without the True Guru, the disease is never cured. ||3||

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਕੀਨੀ ਦਇਆ ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ,
When the Supreme Lord God grants His Mercy,

ਬਾਹ ਪਕੜਿ ਰੋਗਹੁ ਕਢਿ ਲਇਆ ॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਬਾਂਹ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਰੋਗ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ ।
He grabs hold of the mortal’s arm, and pulls him up and out of the disease.

ਤੂਟੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਸ ਦੇ (ਆਤਮਕ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਟੱੁਟ ਗਏ ।
Reaching the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the mortal’s bonds are broken.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਰੋਗੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੭॥੨੦॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—(ਜਿਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ,) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਰੋਗ ਮਿਟਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ।੪।੭।੨੦।
Says Nanak, the Guru cures him of the disease. ||4||7||20||
