Raag Maroo – Maru Ki Vaar M.5

Slok M.5. Guru Ji starts the Vaar with this Slok. It sets the tone for the entire Vaar, where there is great yearning for Darshan. It is a state of intense bairaag and the desire for Union has reached fever pitch. With His Grace, one breaks out of the merciless cycle of maya when bairaag sets in. Thus, Bhagat Kabir Ji says ” bin bairaag na chutass maya.” (Ang 329).

The Slok is written in Dakhni Boli. A delightful speak known as Multani Boli and sometimes Saraiki Boli too.

The Sikh says to his Lord and Master, O my Friend, if You tell me to do so, I am prepared to cut away my head and give it to You; my eyes long for You, when will I see Your Blessed Vision?

“Tu chao Sajjan mehndiya deyee siss utaar; nainn mahinje tarsdeh kadh passi deedar.”
