Guru Ji tells us it is of utmost importance to recite the Lord’s Name, to reflect upon Naam, and to go deep within yourself in simran using Naam. Guru Ji also tells us the condition of those who do not take to Naam.

One who does not recite the Lord’s Name dies of shame; without Naam how can he ever sleep in peace?; the mortal abandons meditation upon the Lord, and hopes for salvation; without roots how can branches grow?

“Laaj mare jo Naam na levhe; Naam bihoon sukhi kyo sovay; Har simran chadh param gatt chahe; mool bina sakha katt aahe.”

O my mind, meditate upon the Guru (Shabad), the Lord of the Universe; the filth of countless incarnations shall be washed away, your bonds will be cut, and you shall be united with the Lord.

“Gur Gobind mere mann dhiaye; janam janam ki mail utare bandhan kaat Har sang milaye.” (rahao).

How can a stone be purified by bathing at a shrine of pilgrimage?; the filth of egotism sticks to the mind (external bathing does not remove inner ego); millions of actions become the root of bondage; without mediation upon the Lord, it is all worthless straw.

“Tirath naye kaha such sehl; mann ko viappe haumai mehl; kote karam bandhan ka mool; Har ke bhajan bin birtha pool.”

Without eating one’s hunger is not satisfied; when the disease is cured, the pain goes away; the mortal is engrossed in lust, anger, greed and attachment; he does not recite the Name of the Lord who created him.

“Bin khaye bujhe nahi bhukh; rogh jaaye ta utre dukh; kaam krodh lobh moh biapeya; jin Prabh kinna so Prabh nahi jaapeya.”

Blessed, blessed is the Saint (Guru), blessed is the Lord’s Name; twenty four hours a day, sing the Praises of the Lord; blessed are the Saints of the Lord, and blessed is the Lord, the Doer of all things; Nanak says, he has taken the Sanctuary of the Infinite, All Pervading Lord.

“Dhan dhan Sadh dhan Har Naao; aath pahar Kirtan gunn gaavho; dhan Har bhagat dhan Karnehaar; Sharan Nanak Prabh Purakh Apaar.”
