Closing Address @GS Parliament Shabad Veechar Satsangs

Gurbani Vichaar started at my house on 8th December 2002. There were five of us. After a short Ardas, and Hukamnama, Shabad Vichaar of every Angg of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji (SGGS Ji) began in earnest. Bhog of this Sahej Paath Shabad Vichaar was in 2017.

In 2014, some of the regular satsangees, ladies and men decided to have another Shabad Vichaar Satsanggat in a Gurdwara setting. After viewing several options, the satsangees decided on Parliament Gurdwara.

On 12th January 2015, the 1st Hukamnama for the 1st Sahej Paath, Shabad Vichaar was from Angg 719.

The Guru had indicated that as you go on this Path of Shabad Vichaar and sing the Lord’s Praises, you will face challenges, obstacles and even slander, but you must not lose heart, you must not give up the Gunn you have been blessed with.

Bairaaree, Fourth Mehl:

The Lord’s humble servant sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord’s Name.

Even if someone slanders the Lord’s humble servant, he does not give up his own goodness. ||1||Pause||

Whatever the Lord and Master does, He does by Himself; the Lord Himself does the deeds.

The Lord and Master Himself imparts understanding; the Lord Himself inspires us to speak. ||1||

The Lord Himself directs the evolution of the world of the five elements; He Himself infuses the five senses into it.

O servant Nanak, the Lord Himself unites us with the True Guru; He Himself resolves the conflicts. ||2||3||” (SGGS Ang 719)

The 1st Shabad Vichaar of the entire Bani of SGGS Ji took almost 4 years, and Guru Ji’s Hukamnama at the Bhog of the 1st Sahej Paath was from Angg 811, Bilawal M5.

Guru Ji advised the sanggat to continue sewa of the Satguru, and keep ourselves away from maya, and to renounce those who were considered powerful because of their worldly riches. All the pomp and show of the sakats, those who chase after energies of maya, was false and poisonous. One who carried out sewa of the Guru in utter humility would be emancipated here and hereafter.

This coming together in sanggat, this Shabad Vichaar sessions, the various aspects of sewa of the Satguru, be it langgar, cleaning the premises, manning the computer to project the Bani on the screen, ardasan, degh sewa, chaur sewa and all other sewa was a blessing from the Satguru. He set the whole sewa and circumstances in motion.

Bilaaval, Fifth Mehl:

Carry water for the Lord’s slave, wave the fan over him, and grind his corn; then, you shall be happy.

Burn in the fire your power, property and authority. ||1||

Grasp hold of the feet of the servant of the humble Saints.

Renounce and abandon the wealthy, the regal overlords and kings. ||1||Pause||

The dry bread of the Saints is equal to all treasures.

The thirty-six tasty dishes of the faithless cynic, are just like poison. ||2||

Wearing the old blankets of the humble devotees, one is not naked.

But by putting on the silk clothes of the faithless cynic, one loses one’s honor. ||3||

Friendship with the faithless cynic breaks down mid-way.

But whoever serves the humble servants of the Lord, is emancipated here and hereafter. ||4||

Everything comes from You, O Lord; You Yourself created the creation.

Blessed with the Blessed Vision of the Darshan of the Holy, Nanak sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||5||14||44||” (SGGS Ang 811)

The Guru had warned the sanggat to keep away from sakats, those who dabble in ridhi sidhis, and invoke energies of maya. Repeatedly, the Guru told us to be humble, to sing the Lord’s Praises and to continue sewa of the Satguru.

A 2nd Sahej Paath was arambh by the sanggat on 5th May 2019. The Arambh Hukamnama from the Guru told the sanggat, this is a fresh start. You have come to the Door of the Almighty, who is All Powerful and All  Capable. Sing the Praises of the Shabad Guru and God and you can be blessed with the Essence of Divinity.

Recite His Name, meditate upon Him, He blesses the humble ones with Naam, and destroys all pain and suffering. His Name is full of all Treasures and He is Exalted, Inaccessible and Infinite. He cherishes all Creation. As you Unite with the Guru, He Merges you through the Shabad.

As you do sewa of His Charan (Bani), your fears and doubts are eradicated. Cleanse your mind in Satsanggat, all fruits are with the Satguru. Give up material attachments, live in humility.

He resides in every heart, and always see Him as Ever Present. The day you forget Him, you will cry in pain.

The Gift of Love for His Name is the greatest Treasure, and this destroys all attachments to maya. If it Pleases Him, He will unite the gurmukhs with Himself. His Glory is manifest and can be seen in the earth and skies. As the Guru showers you with inner contentment, and Divine Love, the tongue will find relish in His Name and attain the true purpose of life. Listen to His praises and become truly alive. Remember, the soul which does not have faith in the Lord will be scorched and burnt.

The Lord of Infinite Virtues, nurtures even the worthless and ungrateful ones, and provides nourishment to all. As one’s destiny is perfected, he Merges into the True Shabad Guru. One cannot survive even an instant without Him, and those who do not enshrine Love for Him die daily, crying out in pain.

In the final pada, Guru Ji told us of the Sikh who has been saved. The Sikh says, He gave me His Robe (Bani) to hold on to, and carried me across the world ocean.

By His Glance of Grace, He made me His own. My mind and body have been soothed, nourished by the food of Naam. Nanak says, I entered the Sanctuary of the Lord, the Destroyer of all Sins.

After this Hukamnama, the Shabad Vichaar of every Angg of SGGS Ji began for the second time.

I was blessed to do this sewa till Angg 548. Due to my ill health, Bhai Jasswant Singh Ji took over. This was also the very trying period of Covid-19 for many months, and many satsang sessions were suspended.

With Guru Ji’s Grace, I was able to totter back into sewa from Angg 876 onwards. It has been an amazing journey for all the satsangees and sewaks of the Monday Shabad Vichaar sessions at Parliament Gurdwara. To my observations all satsangees and sewaks tried their best to do their sewa in compliance with Satguru Ji’s Divine views on sewa.

You are the Great Forgiver; You give continually, more and more each day.

By His greatness, the Great Lord is obtained. ||7||” (SGGS Ang 466)

In the long span of time from 2014 till 2023, we lost some beloved satsangees to God’s Will, Bhai Sangat Singh Ji, Bhai Surinderpal Singh Ji, Gyani Jaswant Singh Ji, Dr. Mehar Singh and many more. All their blessed time spent in satsanggat is surely known to the Satguru. To put proper closure to all matters it is necessary to speak of some mundane matters too.

As a sanggat, we were funded by money collected from the sanggat themselves. We have a balance of about RM15,000.00 (Ringgit Fifteen Thousand) or so. As a token of appreciation to SikhInside, we give them RM1000.00 (Ringgit One Thousand). A sum of RM500.00 (Ringgit five hundred) is hereby given by the sanggat to the young man Bhai Amanjoth Singh who diligently manned the camera for SikhInside every Monday, rain or shine.

On 16th November, 2023 a sum of RM13,000.00 (Ringgit Thirteen Thousand) was sent by Bank Transfer to the Parliament Gurdwara Account. A sum of RM500.00 (Ringgit five hundred) is hereby given by the sanggat to Gyanan Karamjit Kaur Ji, who sincerely co-operated with the sanggat in all aspects of sewa.

The balance sum is hereby put into the golak of Parliament Gurdwara. Throughout the years, the Gurdwara Committee has been very cooperative and we had every satsang session without any obstacles.

Sanggat Ji, that concludes my address to all of you. I am grateful to Satguru Ji, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji for allowing me to do sewa. The Satguru certainly knows my lowly worthless state.

In conclusion, I urge all Sikhs and satsangees to always be in the sharan of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and recite, practice and immerse themselves in the Infinite Shabad Guru Ji as stated by Guru Arjun Sahib Ji.

(SGGS Ji Ang 1426 – Slok Vaaran Tay Vadheek).

The mortal does not run out of capital, as long as Waheguru Ji Himself is merciful. The Word of the Shabad is Guru Nanak’s inexhaustible treasure; this wealth and capital never runs out, no matter how much it is spent and consumed. ||20||”

The Guru has kindly blessed the sanggat with a Bhog Hukamnama at Ang 725:
