Guru Nanak Dev Ji speaks to an educated person. Guru Ji tells him to write about the Truth so that when he is called to account for his deeds there will be a Mark of Truth as his witness.
Guru Ji uses imagery of writing materials to give His Divine Teachings. Firstly, burn emotional attachment and grind it into ink. Transform your understanding to be the highest quality paper. Let your love for God be your pen and let your consciousness be the scribe. Seek the Guru’s guidance and record these reflections.

“Jaal moh ghass mass kar matt kagad kar saar; bhao kalam kar chit lekhari Gur puch likh bichaar”

Write the Praises of Naam, the Name of the Lord; write again and again that He has no end or limitation”

“Likh Naam salah likh likh antt na paravaar”

Baba, (learned elder), write such an account; that when accounts are asked for the Mark of Truth will stand as witness.

“Baba eh lekha likh jaan; jithe lekha mangiye tithe hoye Sacha Nishaan” (rahao).

There, where greatness, eternal peace and everlasting joy are bestowed; the faces of those whose minds are attuned to the True Name are anointed with the Mark of Grace; only by His Grace are such honours received not by mere airy words.

“Jithe milhe vadiaayean sadh khushia sadh chaoo; tin mukh tikay niklay jin man Sacha Naoo; karam milhe ta paaiye nahi galli vaoo duaoo”

Many come and arise and depart. They give themselves lofty names; some are created beggars some hold huge courts; going to the world hereafter they will know without the Name it was all useless”

“Eik aave eik jaave uthh rakhiye naoo Salaar; eik upaaye mangtay eikna vadey darbaar; agey geya jaaniye vin Naave vekaar”

I am terrified by fear of You, God. My body is exhausted and wasting away; those who called themselves sultans and khans I have seen being reduced to dust; Nanak as one arises and leaves, all false attachments are sundered.

“Bhae Tere dar aglaa khap khap chijjay deh; naav jina sultan khan honday dithe kheh; Nanak uthi chaliya sabh kurhe tutte neh”
