Guru Ji tells us about the conduct of the Saints, and how we should instruct our minds.

The wealth of the Saints is the Lord Himself, and they conduct their Trade after consulting the Guru; they Praise the Name  (the Lord) forever and ever, the Name being their Merchandise and Support; the Perfect Guru (Shabad) implants the inexaustible Treasure of Naam into the Saints.

“Har bhagta Har dhan raas hai Gur pooch kare vapaar; Har Naam salahan sada sada Vakhar Har Naam Adhaar; Gur Puray Har Naam dhrirhaaeya Har bhagta atott bhandaar.”

O brothers, instruct your mind in this way; why are you so lazy O mind?; Become a gurmukh and meditate upon the Naam.

“Bhai re iss mann ko samjaahye; eh mann aalas kya kare gurmukh Naam dhiaaiye.”(rahao).

Devotion to the Lord is your love for Him. The gurmukh reflects upon Him; hypocrisy (pretence) is not devotion, speaking words of duality leads to misery; those humble ones who have deep understanding remain distinct (unstained), although they may intermingle with others.

“Har bhagat Har ka pyar hai je gurmukh kare bichaar; pakhand bhagat na hovaiyee dubida bolh khuaar; so jann ralaiyaa na ralay jis antar bibek bichaar.”

One who keeps the Lord enshrined in his heart is His true servant; he places, and offers his mind and body before the Lord, and conquers his egotism from within; blessed and acclaimed is the gurmukh who can never be defeated.

“So sewak Har aakhiye jo Har rakhe urh dhaar; mann tann saunpay aage dhare haumai vicho maar; dhan gurmukh so parvaan hai jo kade na aave haar.”

Only with His Grace do you find Him. Without His Grace, He cannot be found; the 8.4 million species of beings all yearn for the Lord. Those He allows to meet, meet Him; Nanak says, the gurmukh finds the Lord, and remains forever absorbed in His Name.

“Karam milhe ta paaiyeh vinn karme paaya na jaaye; lakh chaurasee tarsade jiss melay so milhe Har aaye; Nanak gurmukh Har paaya sada Har Naam samaaiye.”

ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
Siree Raag, Third Mehla:

ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਸਿ ਹੈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਛਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ॥
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਪਾਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਧਨ ਹੈ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਲੈ ਕੇ (ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਹੀ) ਵਣਜ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ
The devotees of the Lord have the Wealth and Capital of the Lord; with Guru’s Advice, they carry on their trade.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਵਖਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥
ਭਗਤ-ਜਨ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਲਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਵੱਖਰ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ
They praise the Name of the Lord forever and ever. The Name of the Lord is their Merchandise and Support.

ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਾ ਅਤੁਟੁ ਭੰਡਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪਾਸ ਅਮੁੱਕ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
The Perfect Guru has implanted the Name of the Lord into the Lord’s devotees; it is an Inexhaustible Treasure. ||1||

ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਕਉ ਸਮਝਾਇ ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ! (ਆਪਣੇ) ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਾ
O Siblings of Destiny, instruct your minds in this way.

ਏ ਮਨ ਆਲਸੁ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹੇ ਮਨ ! ਕਿਉਂ ਆਲਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ? ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
O mind, why are you so lazy? Become Gurmukh, and meditate on the Naam. ||1||Pause||

ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰੇ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੀ) ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Devotion to the Lord is love for the Lord. The Gurmukh reflects deeply and contemplates.

ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਬੋਲੁ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥
ਪਰ ਪਖੰਡ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ, ਪਖੰਡ ਦਾ ਬੋਲ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
Hypocrisy is not devotion-speaking words of duality leads only to misery.

ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਰਲਾਇਆ ਨਾ ਰਲੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਿਬੇਕ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ (ਖੋਟੇ ਖਰੇ ਦੇ) ਪਰਖਣ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪਖੰਡੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ) ਰਲਾਇਆਂ ਰਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ।੨।
Those humble beings who are filled with keen understanding and meditative contemplation-even though they intermingle with others, they remain distinct. ||2||

ਸੋ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਖੀਐ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਆਖਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ
Those who keep the Lord enshrined within their hearts are said to be the servants of the Lord.

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਉਪੇ ਆਗੈ ਧਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਮਾਰਿ ॥
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਰੱਖ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Placing mind and body in offering before the Lord, they conquer and eradicate egotism from within.

ਧਨੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਹੈ ਜਿ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਹਾਰਿ ॥੩॥
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਨਮ ਦੀ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ) ਕਦੇ ਹਾਰ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ) ਕਬੂਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
Blessed and acclaimed is that Gurmukh, who shall never be defeated. ||3||

ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮੈ ਪਾਇਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮਿਲੇ ਤਾਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਿਹਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ
Those who receive His Grace find Him. Without His Grace, He cannot be found.

ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਤਰਸਦੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਆਇ ॥
ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਲਈ) ਤਰਸਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਉਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਆਪ (ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
The 8.4 million species of beings all yearn for the Lord. Those whom He unites, come to be united with the Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੬॥੩੯॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੬।੩੯।
O Nanak, the Gurmukh finds the Lord, and remains forever absorbed in the Lord’s Name. ||4||6||39||
