Raag Gauree – Pada no.6 Astpadhi 22 Sukhmani Sahib.

Astpadhi 22 summarises and reinforces the teachings of the earlier 21 Astpadhis. After this summary, Astpadhi 23 speaks of enlightenment given in the Guru’s Grace, (“gyan anjaan Gur deeya..”), whilst the final Astpadhi (24), speaks of everything Pura/Complete/Perfect and Perfected (“Pura Prabh aradhiya Pura ja ka Naao; Nanak Pura paaiya Puray ke Gunn gaao.”)

The Divine Advice given by Guru Arjun Dev Ji in this pada is.

Successfully resolve all your affairs in this world and the next; by enshrining the Lord’s Name deep within your heart.

“Halatt palatt doye leho sawaar; Raam Naam antar urh dhaar.”

The Teachings of the True Guru are Perfect; in whose mind such Teachings abide, he realises the Truth; with your mind and body, lovingly attune yourself to Naam, and recite it; sorrow, pain and fear shall depart from your mind.

“Puray Guru ki Puri Dikhiya; jis mann basse tis Sach parikhiya; mann tann Naam japho liv laaye; dukh darad mann te bhao jaaye.”

Deal in the True Trade (of Naam) O trader; and your Merchandise shall have value/be appreciated in the Court of the Lord.

“Sach vapaar karo vaparee; Dargeh nibhe Khep Tumaree.”

Focus only on One in your mind; Nanak says, you will not have to come and go (in reincarnation) again.

“Eka Tek rakho mann mahe; Nanak bahurh na aave jaaye.”

Bhai Ji further elaborated on April 21, 2026:

We always tend to think of vapaar as some external trade. Gurbani however, stresses that the mann is the vanjara/vapaari. (trader).
Pauri 31 of Anand Sahib says the truly profitable trade for the mann is,
“Har Har nit japeho jiaho laha katiyo diharhi.”

(Recite His Name daily with your soul, and earn profits every day).
