SGGS Angg 540.
Raag Bihagara (Bihagda) M.4.
Gurbani is presented to the Sikh by the Satgurus so that it can be recited – to Japp.
Yet, we have so called vidhvaans who say mere recital is “ratta” and brings no spiritual benefit. To Japna, to recite is of course the first step. One must go further beyond mere Japp and rise to “gaunna,” “aradhana,” and then “dhiaayona.”
Beyond that is “Ajappa Jaap” where He takes over and the recitation is involuntary. It becomes intuitive as anhad vajje.
In this Shantt Guru Ji says we must not delay japp of His Name even for a moment. Then, the vidhvaans do not agree with the recital of Waheguru as Gurmantar. Bhai Gurdas Ji says it is our Gurmantar. The vidhvaans say the word Waheguru was not given by any of the Satgurus but by the Bhatt Sahibs. What a silly objection. The Bhatt Bani was included in Pothi Sahib by Guru Arjun Dev Ji.
Moreover, SGGS Ji is “Dasan Patshaian di Jote.”
Any word or Shabad in SGGS Ji can be used to recite God’s Name. Waheguru is an expression of wonder and awe at the Majesty of the Creator. It is a word of bismaad.
This Shantt by Guru Ramdas Ji has 4 padas. The ragi Singh sings the 2nd pada.
Guru Ji tells us life is very fragile. You do not know if you will draw another breath. Hence do not delay in reciting the Lord’s Name.
“Har japdeyian khin dhill na kijeiyi meri jindarhiye mat ke jappe sah avay ke na avay Ram”.
Go, meet the True Guru (Shabad), He will implant the Lord’s Name in your heart.
“Sabh jaye milho Satguru ko meri jindarhiye jo Har Har Naam dhrihhave Ram”
That moment, that instant, that second is fruitful when the Lord comes to mind.
As you meditate upon the Lord in utter humility, the Messenger of misery and death does not come near you.
