Guru Ji gives Divine Advice about the selfish nature of the world. Instead of relying on others, we should have full faith and rely only upon God. Even if there are genuine relationships, these are temporary, and do not last beyond death.
O my dear friend enshrine this Advice in your mind; the world is entangled in thoughts of its own selfish happiness. No one is for anyone else.
“Pritam jaan leho mann mahi; apne sukh seyo hi jag fandeyo ko kahu ko nahi.” (rahao).
In good times, many come and sit together, surrounding you from all four sides; but when hard times come, they all leave and no one comes near you.
“Sukh meh aan bahut milh baithatt rahat chahu diss ghere; bipatt paree sabh hi sang chadatt kouu neh aavat nere.”
Your wife whom you love so much (and who expressed so much love for you), and who has remained ever attached to you; runs away crying “ghost, ghost” as soon as the swan soul leaves the body.
“Ghar ki naar bahut hith ja seyo sada rahat sang lagee; jab hi hans taji eh kaayan pret pret kar bhagee.”
This is the way they act – those whom we love so much; Nanak says, in the final moments, no one is of any help besides the Dear Lord Himself.
“Eh bidh ko biohaar baneyo hai ja seyo neho lagaieyo; antt baar Nanak bin Har Ji kouu kaam nah aayo.”

Bhai Ji further elaborated on July 24, 2026:
Guru Ji expresses an inexorable Truth about human relationships.
Although we tend to invest so much emotion, money, effort, in human relationships, in each relationship, you will find a selfish streak.
When things go well for you, they will sit with you, surrounding you from all four sides.
“Sukh mai aan bahut milh bethatt rahatt chahu diss ghere’.
However, when difficulties arise, all will abandon you, and no one comes to your aid.
“Bippat pari sabh hi sangg chadatt kouu na aavat nehre.”
Guru ji concludes, by declaring, in the final analysis, no one is of any use at all, except the Dear Lord. Thus, taking the aasra of Naam, we should all strive to be as close to God as possible. Only He can help you out of your difficulties.
“Antt baar Nanak binh Har Ji kouu kaam na aaiyo.”
