SGGS Angg 1209.

Raag Sarangh M.5.

A jeev pines for God. She feels He is far away from her body home. As she continues her prayers, and her yearning for God reaches fever pitch, the Guru (Shabad) kindly removes the veil which blocked her from seeing God (His Jote). She now realises the irony that God was always present with her, and it was the pardaa, the delusions of maya which separated her from Union with God. Her “kurhe ki paal” has been broken. Guru Nanak Dev Ji poses this question in pauri no.1 of Japji Sahib.

“Kiv Sachiaara hoiyeh kiv kurhe tutte paal.”

And when the paal (veil) is removed.

M.3. Angg 490 – “kurhe ki paal vicho niklay ta sada sukh hoye.”

M.3 Angg 591 – “kurhe ki paal vicho niklay ta Sach (God) vasse mann aaye.”

The Shabad starts with the jeev isteri pleading with the Lord to come to her home. She entreats; I know I am full of pride and speak in arrogance, but Lord, foolish and wayward I may be, yet I am still your hand maiden (slave i.e I belong only to You).

“Mohan ghar aavo karo jodrian; maan karo abhimaane bolho bhuul chuuk Teri pria chiriya.” (rahao).

I have heard (been told) that You are nearby, but I cannot see You. I wander about suffering in doubt and misgiving.

“Nikatt sunho aur pekho nahi bhram bhram dukh bhariya.”

Gur Parsad happens.

The Guru was Merciful to me and removed the veil of delusion. Meeting my Beloved, I blossom forth in green (rejuvenated) lusciousness.

“Hoye Kirpaal Gur lahe pardo milho Laal mann hariyaa.”

Now she knows she will feel miserable if she were to forget her Husband and Master even for an instant. To forget Him even for a moment, would feel like being separated for millions of days, tens of thousands of years.

“Ek nimakh jo bisray Suami jaanho kote dinnas lak bariya.”

She reflects upon her journey to Union and realises it was Sadhsanggat which intensified her yearning, which led to Union with God.

“Sadhsanggat ki pirh jo payee tao Nanak Har sang miriya.”‎

Bhai Ji further elaborated on November 22, 2024:

A jeev isteri pleads, (karo jodhrian).
O Beloved Lord (Mohan), please do come to my home. (ghar aavho)

Actually the Lord resides with her always, but He is far from her thoughts. She wants Him to be enshrined in her mind, her thoughts, always.

She admits to her Beloved. I may act haughty (maan karo) and speak with arrogance (abhimaane bolho), but Lord, despite all my faults (bhool chook), Beloved, I am always Your maid servant (Teri Pria chiria).

I am told You are near at hand, but yet, I cannot see You. (nikatt sunho aur pekho nahi). Such delusions make me wander about and give me suffering. (bharam bharam dukh bhariya).

It was only the Merciful Guru, who in His Compassion removed my veils/blinds (Hoye Kirpal Gur laahe paardo). I then was blessed to meet (milho) my Beloved (Laal) and my mind (jeev) felt rejuvenated, fresh and truly alive. (mann hariya ).
