Raag Assa – Assa Mehla 1.

One of 4 Shabads generally referred to as Babarvani.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji was an eyewitness to the aftermath of the merciless attack by Babur on Eminabad.
The Lodhi Sultans were routed and the population massacred.

First battle of Panipat – 1526.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji looked at the mayhem and rubble. He expressed Dhur Ki Bani which saw the entire tragedy as a manifestation of God’s Hukam.

Starting with the rahao which states

“Eh jag tera to Gosain; ek ghari me thaap uthaape jarh vandh devay bhai”

This world is Your O Master; in an instant You establish or destroy and distribute wealth as it pleases You.

In the first 2 padas Guru Ji poses six questions which show an amazingly vivid picture of the destruction that has taken place.

“Kaha so khel tambela ghode kaha so bheri shehnai?”

Where are the games, the stables the horses the drums and the bugles?

“Kaha so teghbandh garedhar kaha so laal kavaaiye”

Where are the sword belts and chariots; where are the stunning scarlet uniforms?

“Kaha so aarsiya moh bankay eithay dissay nahi”

Where are the rings with mirrors and the beautiful faces,? they can no longer be seen here.

In the final line Guru Ji concludes by saying this is really His Hukam unfolding what is Written by Him.

“Hukami Hukam chalaye vigsay Nanak likhiya paiye’.”
