Raag Ramkali – Bhagat Kabir Ji

Kabir Ji tells us the world, although physically awake, is being robbed of its precious life. Besides being physically awake, there are so many Scriptures available to the world which speak of God. Yet the world is spiritually asleep.

Without Naam man’s perception is all wrong. He thinks the bitter neem is sweet while the tasty mango is treated as bitter. His perception is so bad that he thinks the ripe banana comes from a thorny bush.
He thinks the coconut hangs from the barren simmal tree. Bhagat ji says of man “what a stupid idiotic fool he is” – “murakh mugadh gavaar”

Ripe fruits i.e. fruits of prayer can only come from Guru/God, not barren simmal trees like pakhandi babas or tantrics.

“Nimb bhaio anb anb bhaio nimba kela paka jhar; Nalier fal sebar paka murakh mudagh gavar.”

In the final two lines Bhagat Ji uses graphic imagery to tell us the value of humility. He says God is sweet like sugar spilled on the sand. The huge elephant (symbol for ego), cannot pick up the sugar. In contrast, the tiny ant (symbol for humility), carefully picks out the sugar and eats to her fill.

“Har bheyo khand ret me bikhriyo hasti chuniyo na jaayi”.

“Kahe Kabeer kul jaat paat tajj chiti hoye chunn khaayi.”
