Guru Nanak Dev Ji shares some Divine Truths which apply to all of us. Some very strict aspects of God’s Hukam are explained, in rich striking language.

Guru Ji says, death comes to all and all must face separation; go ask the wise ones who one meets in the hereafter; those who forget my Lord and Master, suffer terrible miseries.

“Sabna maran aaya vichorha sabna; puch jaye sianeya agey milan kinnah; jinni mera Sahib visray vadhree vedan tinnah.”

One must not despair at this inexorable Truth. Instead, it is best that you sing His Praises; by Whose Grace eternal peace is obtained.

“Bhi salahiyo Sacha soye; ja ko nadar sada sukh hoye.” (Rahao).

Praise Him as Great. He was, is and shall ever be; You are the One Great Giver. Mankind cannot give anything; whatever Pleases Him, comes to pass. It is pointless to wail like women in distress.

“Vadda kar salahnaa hai bhi hosi soye; sabna Dataa Ek Tu maanas daat na hoye; jo Tis bhaave so thieye run ke runney hoye.”

Many who proclaimed their sovereignty over millions of fortresses on the earth, have departed; and those whose egos could not be contained, even by the sky, have had ropes put through their noses; if the mind (jeev) realised the torments awaiting it, it would not indulge in the sweet (short lasting pleasures of maya) tastes of the present.

“Dharti upar kot garh keti gayee vajaiiye; Jo asmaan na maavnee tin nak natha paaye; je mann jaane suleeya kahe mitha khaaye.”

Nanak says, as many as the sins he commits, that many chains are around his neck; if he possesses Virtues (Godly attributes, Naam), then the chains are cut away. These Virtues are the true brothers, the real brothers; going to the hereafter, those who have no Guru are not accepted; they are beaten and expelled.

“Nanak auggan jethrey tetey galli janjeer; je gunn hohn ta kateeyan se bhai se bir; aggey gaye na maniyan mar kadho behPir.”
