Raag Gujri M.5, Raag Ramkali, Raag Maru
A Sikh sings in joy. He has been saved from the snares of maya.
As I cross (the river of life) the river, my foot does not get stuck (in the mud of attachments).
My heart is (instead) attached to Your Feet (Bani). You, Lord are Nanak’s Raft and Boat.
“Nadee tarandree mainda khoj na khumbay manjh mohabbat Teri; tao Saho Charni maida heaarha seetam Har Nanak Tulha Berhee.”
SGGS Angg 964.
Raag Ramkali M.5
A jeev isteri gushes with joy. Hearing Your Glory (Naam), my mind and body have blossomed forth.
Chanting Your Name I am flushed with colour (of love for God);
Walking on Your Path (Hukam), my inner being is cool and tranquil. Gazing upon the Guru’s Darshan, I am enraptured.
“Soye sunandree mera mann tann maulaa Naam japandree laalee; pandh julandree mera andar thandaa Gur Darshan dekh nihalee.”
SGGS Angg 1094.
Raag Maru M.5
A Sikh lovingly addresses God as a Friend.
If You indeed are my Friend, then please do not separate Yourself from me, even for an instant; You fascinate my soul. When will I see O my Love?
“Je Tu Mitar asadrha hik bhoree na vichorh; Jio mahinja tao mohiyaa kad pasee Jani tohey.”
SGGS Angg 1094.
Raag Maru M.5
A jeev isteri is prepared to do anything to please her Lord.
If it were to Please You, Lord, I would cut off my head and give it to You; my eyes long for You; when will You give me Your Blessed Vision?
“Tu chao Sajjan mehndiya deyi siss utaar; nayen mahinje tarasdey kad pasee deedar.”

SGGS Ji Ang 520 Raag Gujri
If one is stuck in the mud of maya and attachments, Guru Ji says, in Rehras Sahib.
“Pankaj moh pagg nahi chaale; ham dekha teh dubiaale.”(Ang 12)
The mortal gets his feet (pagg) stuck in the swamp (pankaj) of emotional attachment. I have seen mortals drowning in the mud (quicksand).
In contrast to the above distressing situation, in this Shabad, Guru Ji describes a Sikh who has taken to Naam. The Sikh says, I am crossing the river of life. My foot (khoj) does not get stuck anywhere. What saves me Lord, is my Love for You. ” Manj mohabbat Teri.”
Lord, You are the Divine Raft and Boat (Naam), to carry me across.
