This Shantt has 4 padas. This is the 1st pada of this Shant. Guru Ji describes the blessed inner avastha of the Saints. Their external surroundings too become electrified and most pleasant with the aura of Naam in the Saints.

The night is wet with dew, and the stars twinkle in the heavens; the Saints remain wakeful in the love of their All Pervading Lord.

“Bhinni rainnerhiye chamkan tarey; jaage Sant janna mere Raam pyare.”

These Beloveds of the Lord remain ever wakeful, and meditate upon the Name, day and night; their hearts are focused on the Lotus Feet (Bani) of the Lord, and they do not forget Him, even for an instant.

“Raam pyare sada jaage Naam simre andinno; Charan Kamal dhyaan hirday Prabh bissar nahi eik khinno.”

They have renounced their pride, emotional attachments, evil of their minds, and burnt away the pains of wickedness; prays Nanak, the humble Saints of the Lord remain ever wakeful.

“Tajj maan moh bikaar mann ka kalmalaa dukh jaare; binvant Nanak sada jaage Har daas Sant pyare.”
