SGGS Angg 78
Raag Sri Raag
Guru Ramdas Ji has one Shantt in Raag Sri Raag. At Angg 78.
In Gurbani, the imagery of the jeev isteri pining for union with her Husband Lord is often used.
This world is the Father’s home, while the Lord’s Abode is Sohra Ghar.
As all have to go sooner or later to the Sohra Ghar, (sabna Sohre vanjnaa), we jeev isteris are told to prepare ourselves by meeting the Guru (“Gur mil chaj achaar sikh”).
Some fortunate ones are able to unite while still alive. This union is only possible through Naam and Gur Parsad.
Guru Ramdas Ji’s Shantt has 5 padas. This is the 2nd pada flowing with tremendous love.
In this pada the jeev isteri speaks to her Father (the Guru) and exclaims joyfully
“Viyah hova mere Babula”. But this marriage became possible only as a gurmukh “gurmukhe Har paaya.”
As the inner union, (marriage), takes place the darkness of ignorance is dispelled and the Guru’s dazzling light of spiritual wisdom flashes within her.
She has found the Priceless Jewel, the Lord Himself.
Her ego has been removed and the Guru’s matt (teachings, Bani) has consumed her conceit.
She has united with Akaal Murat, the Imperishable One who never dies and who will never leave her.
