SGGS Angg 853
Raag Bilaaval (Bilawal) M.3.
A Sikh sees the world is burning. He pleads “please save me”.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji has stated in Majh Ki Vaar (Ang 147), that there are four rivers of fire which scorch everyone.
Cruelty, material attachment, greed and anger.
Falling into them one is burnt. Only by attaching yourself to Naam can you save yourself.
“Hans het lobh kop charey nadia agg; paveh dajjay Nanaka tariye karmi lagg.”
Apart from this Slok, Guru Amardas Ji has stated at other places in SGGS Ji too, that the world is indeed aflame.
Angg 651.
“Jagat jalanda dith mai haumai dujjay bhaaye.”
Angg 424.
“Jagat jalanda dekh ke bhaj bhaye sarnayee.”
Sheikh Fareed Ji tells us in Slok no 3.
“Kich na bujjay kich na sujjay duniya guji bhaye; Saeen mere changi kita nahi ta ham bhi dajja aih.”
Apart from fires outside, these fires are within us. We must check ourselves “appa chinnay.” “Do I have a problem with anger? Do I get angry very easily? Do I have uncontrollable anger?
If so, you are burning yourself in these fires.
As the Shabad says, only Shabad bichaar can save you and douse the fires of anger from within.
“Jagat jalanda rakh lai apni kirpa dhar.”
The Sikh prays:
“Jit duarey ubray titay leho ubaar”
Whatever it takes Guru Ji please save me.
The Satguru replies.
“Satguru sukh vekhaliya Sacha Shabad bichaar.”
The right way to peace is reflection upon the Guru’s Shabad.
Finally, Guru Ji says, I know of no one else besides the Lord who can do this Mercy (of dousing all fires).
“Nanak avar na sujjeyi Har bin Bakshanhaar.”
