SGGS Angg 78-79.

Raag Sri Raag M.4.

This Shantt has 5 padas. It records a conversation between a jeev isteri and her Babul (Father).
The imagery is that this world is the house of our father, (Peka Ghar), and upon being wed, the jeev isteri goes to her in laws home (Saura Ghar).

Using marriage imagery, it is a description of the inner journey of the jeev isteri who clothes herself with Gunn/Naam given by her Father, (the Guru/Shabad).
As she is fully ready for marriage and Union (Joti Jote ralli), she gets ready to leave her Father’s house (totally detached from worldliness).

In the 1st pada the jeev isteri says she is in the Guru’s Sharan, learning about her Husband’s Celestial Home (Sachkhand).

“Har Har Apni Kirpa Kare Gurmukh Sahorhe Kam Sikhe.”

Her karmic accounts (lekhas) are cleared as she recites the Name of the Lord.

“Lekha Dharam Rai Ki Baki Jap Har Har Naam Kirkhe.”

In the 2nd pada, she Unites with the Lord.

“Viyah hova mere Babula Gurmukhe Har Paaiya.”

She receives Enlightenment.

“Agyan andhera kattiya Gur Gyan Parchand Balaiya.”

Her haumai has been cut and all her pains are gone. Her identity has been absorbed by the Guru’s Matt (Teachings/ Bani).

“Haumai rogh gya dukh latha aap Aape Gurmatt Khada.”

Her Eternal Husband Lord is Akal Murat who never dies, and never leaves or goes away.

“Akal Murat Var Paaiya Abhinasi Na Kadhe Marhe na Jaaiya.”

The 3rd pada speaks of the marriage party, the janj. Her janj is made up of Har Jan, humble Saints (Satsangees).

“Har Sat Sat mere Babula Har Jan mil janj sohundi ”

It is the 4th pada that is Sung here.

She asks for some gift as she leaves her parents home. She calls it daaj, (dowry). Unlike dowry in the world, she asks for the dowry of Naam,
Spiritual Honour and Bhagti.

“Har Prabh mere Babula Har devho Daan mai dajho;Har kaprho Har Sobha devho jit sawre mera kaajho; Har Har Bhagti Daan Suhela Gur Satgur Daan Diwaeiya.”
