A Sikh sings Praises of Naam and the infinite blessings it brings. Great emphasis is placed on being a gurmukh – one who takes the Guru’s Sharan, absorbs, and practices the Guru’s matt.

Besides that, the Shabad tells us of the progression in avastha of the gurmukh. First it is “vadhe bhaag gurmukh Har lehna” i.e. the gurmukh has to do great kamayee to get vadhe bhaag written in his destiny.

Then it is “gurmukh Har paaye” i.e. the gurmukh moves towards merger with God.

Thirdly, it is “gurmukh Naam divaaieya” i.e. the gurmukh gets blessed with Naam (God) as a Gift.

The Shabad begins.

My love for Naam is the Support of my mind and body; I recite Naam, the essence of all peace.

“Mere mann tann prem Naam adhaar; Naam jappi Namo sukh saar.”

Chant the Naam (Attributes of God) my friends and companions; besides Naam, nothing else matters to me. Naam is received as a gurmukh by great good fortune.

“Naam japho mere saajan sehna; Naam bina mai avar na koyee vadhe bhaag gurmukh Har lehna.” (rahao).

I cannot live without Naam; by great good fortune the gurmukh strives to obtain Union with God.

“Naam bina nahi jeeviha jaaye; vadhe bhaag gurmukh Har paaye.”

Those without Naam have their faces blackened by the filth of maya; without Naam, their lives are accursed.

“Naamheen kalakh mukh maya; Naam bina dhrig dhrig jivaieya.”

The Great Lord is obtained by great good destiny; Nanak says He blesses the gurmukh with Naam.

“Vadha vadha Har bhaag kar paaya; Nanak gurmukh Naam divaaiya.”
