Raag Basant – Bhagat Ravidas Ji.

Bhagat Ji looks at egoistic people. They are ignorant. If there was realisation in them as to fragility of the human life and the karmic consequences of acting in pride, you would be humble.
Addressed to a jeev isteri Bhagat Ji says you are not aware of anything. You get taken up by outward appearances and puff yourself up.

“Tujhe sujanta kachu nahi; pehrava dekhe ubh jahe.”

The proud bride shall find no place (in God’s Court); above your head the crow of death is constantly cawing.

“Garabvati ka nahi thaoo; teri gardan upar lavhe kaoo.”

What are you so proud of, you insane woman?; even the mushrooms which sprout in summer live longer than you.

“Tu kahe garbay baavli; jaise bhado khumbraj tu tis te khari utavli” (rahao).

Just as the deer does not know its secret; the musk is contained in its own belly yet it searches for fragrance outside.

“Jaise kurank nahi paiyo bhed; tan sugandh dhunday pardes.”

One who reflects upon his own body; is not humiliated by the messenger of death.

“Ap tan ka jo kare bichaar; tis nahi jamkankar kare khuaar.”

One who is overly proud of his sons and wife; the Master shall call him to account. (one should be in shukrana to God for being blessed with good children and spouse.)

“Putar kalatar ka kare ahankaar; Thakur lekha manganhaar.”

The jeev has to suffer for sins committed on this journey; (after death), who can you call Beloved, Beloved? (i.e. Naam japna should be done whilst still alive).

“Fere ka dukh sehe jio; pachay kisay pukare Pio Pio.”

Go, seek the Sanctuary of the Holy (Guru); millions of your sins will be eradicated.

“Sadhu ki jo leho ote; tere mitay paap sabh kot kot.”

Ravidas says one who chants the Name of the Lord; loses all fears about class, birth and rebirth.

“Kahe Ravidas jo jappe Naam; tis jaat na janam na jon kaam”
