Raag Dhanaasree M.5
Guru Ji tells us about the fires of greed. Trishna, as it is known, robs you of peace, and lands you into all kinds of entanglements. It’s opposite is santokh, contentment.
In Sukhmani Sahib, Guru Ji has said,
“Bina santokh nahi kou rajey.”
Guru Ji says Naam can douse the fires of trishna; it is through the Guru’s Word that one gets peace and contentment. It is only through the Guru’s Words (Shabads), that one’s meditation becomes perfectly focussed upon God.
“Trishna bujjay Har ke Naam; maha santokh hovay Gur Bachnee Prabh sio laggey puran dhyiaan.”
This realisation, that only Naam can help him, settles in, and the Sikh now prays. Please shower Your Mercy upon me and give me strength to ignore the great enticements of maya, O Lord, Merciful to the helpless; Bless me with Your Name, that I may truly live by reciting, and please bring my efforts to perfect fruition.
“Maha kalool bujhey maya ke kar kirpa mere Deen Dyal; Aapna Naam deh jap jeeva puran hoye daas ki ghaal.”
The Guru answers. You can achieve all desires, power, pleasures and bliss, by chanting His Name and singing His Praises; Nanak says, a humble being whose destiny has been so Written, (i.e. as you make efforts, He Writes your destiny), such a person has all his efforts perfected.
“Sarab manorath raaj sukh rass sadh khusian Kirtan Jap Har Naam; jis ke karam likhiya dhur Kartey Nanak jann ke puran kaam.”
