Raag Gauree – Pauri no.9 Gauri Ki Vaar M.4

Gauri Ki Vaar M.4 has many passages about the Majestic Satguru. The Vaar gives many examples of those who tried to slander the Satgurus or made obstacles for them. In each instance the slanderers and dokhis were and are punished by God. Guru Ji also tells us about false babas who try to imitate the Guru, but end up dying miserable deaths.

The pauri begins with Praise of God.

You are Carefree, Unfathomable, and Immeasurable. How can You ever be measured?

“Tu Veparvah Athah hai Atolh kyo toliye.”

Those who meet the True Guru (Shabad) are very fortunate and such fortunate ones meditate on You, Lord.

“Se vadhbhagee je Tudh dhiayenday jin Satgur miliye.”

The Word of the Guru is the Embodiment of Truth, one should become the Image of Gurbani (i.e. one should absorb all that Gurbani says, and become a Repository of Gurbani ‘a living Image of Gurbani’).

“Satgur ki Bani Sat Saroop hai Gurbani baniye.”

Some jealously try to emulate the True Guru, but whatever they say is false and insipid, and such false ones are destroyed by their own falsehood.

“Satgur ki rissay hor kach pich bolday se kurhiyaar kurhe charh parhiye.”

What they harbour in their minds is different from what they say with their mouths, and as they suck in the poison of maya, they wither away and die.

“Ona andar hor mukh hor hai nit maya nu chakh marde karhiye.”
