Raag Sorath – Bhagat Ravidas Ji.

Bhagat Ji speaks about His love for God, and gives some delightful examples.

If You were a Mountain, Lord, I would be Your peacock; if You were the Moon, I would be Your patridge in love with it.

“Jao Tum Girvar tao ham mora; jao Tum chand tao ham bhaye hai chakora.”

(Peacocks are found mostly near the base of mountains or lower slopes. There are several references in SGGS Ji about peacocks screeching with joy, as it rains from the heavens. The patridge or chakor is the national bird of Pakistan. It is reputed to be in love with the moon, and constantly gazes at it, and does not like to be distracted).

O Lord, if You do not break (this love, i.e. You have the Power to do so), I will not break it from my side; for, if I were to break with You, with whom would I then join?

“Madhve Tum na torho tao ham nahi toreh; Tum seyo torh kavan seyo jorhey.” (rahao).

If You are the Lamp, I am the wick (I am prepared to burn myself for the Radiance of Your Love); if You are the Sacred Shrine of Pilgrimage, then I am Your pilgrim (I would trek anywhere to meet You).

“Jao Tum divra tao ham batee; jao Tum Tirath tao ham jatee.”

I am joined in True Love for You, Lord; joining my love with You, I have broken all other loves.

“Sachee preet ham Tum seyo jorhee; Tum seyo jorh avar sang torhee.”

Wherever I go, there I serve You; there is no other Lord Master than You O Lord.

“Jeh jeh jaoo taha Teri sewa; Tum seyo Thakur aur na Deva.”

Meditating upon You, the noose of death is cut away; Ravidas sings this in loving devotion to You, Lord.

“Tumre bhajan katey jamm phasaa; bhagat het gavhe Ravidasa.”

Bhai Ji added on August 9, 2024:

Bhagat Ravidas Ji declares his love for God. Lord, my love for You is True. As I enshrined True Love for You, I broke off from all worldly loves.

“Sachi Preet ham Tum sio jorhi; Tum sio jorh avar sang torhi.”
