The child Hargobind Ji had smallpox. Many remedies were suggested. Guru Arjun Dev Ji said apart from normal herbs and medicine to relieve the itch and pain, the true cure was only from Naam, and Guru Ji encouraged all to pray.
Someone suggested that there was a Sitlaa mandir nearby. He said smallpox is caused when a witch seizes a child and infests him with the disease. If Sitlaa devi (the devi in charge of smallpox) was pleased by offerings of a broom, some fruits and red cloth, and some money, Sitlaa devi would rid the child of smallpox.

Guru Ji expressed this Shabad in answer, and stressed that Naam, prayer to Nirankaar was the true cure for all ailments, not prayer to devi devas or others

The Name of the Immaculate Lord is the Ambrosial Water; as you remember Him with your tongue, your sins are washed away.

“Naam Niranjan Neer Narayan; rasna simrat paap bilaaiyen.” (rahao).

The Lord resides in everyone; the Lord illumines each and every heart; reciting the Lord’s Name, one does not fall into hell; serving the Lord all fruitful rewards are obtained.

“Narayan sabh mahe nivaas; Narayan ghat ghat pargaas; Narayan kahte narak na jaaye; Narayan sev saggal falh paaye.”

The Lord is the Support of my mind; He is the Boat to cross over the world ocean; chanting His Name death (miseries) will run away; the Lord breaks the teeth of the witch (of disease, maya).

“Narayan mann mahe adhaar; Narayan Bohith sansaar; Narayan kehat jamm bhaag palaaiyen; Narayan dantt bhaane daaiyen.”

The Lord is forever and ever Merciful; He blesses us with peace and bliss; the Lord reveals His Own Glory; the Lord is Mother and Father to His Saints.

“Narayan sadh sadh bakshind; Narayan kinnay sukh anand; Narayan pargat kinnay partaap; Narayan Sant ko Maee Baap.”

The Lord is found in the Company of the Holy; repeatedly sing the Lord’s Praises; meeting with the Guru I have obtained the Imcomprehensible Object (Naam); servant Nanak holds tight to the Sanctuary of the Lord.

“Narayan sadhsang Narayan; barung baar Narayan gaaiyen; bastt Agochar Gur milh lahee; Narayan ote Nanak daas gahee.”
