Raag Sorath M.9

Guru Ji tells us it is most important to be in God’s Sharan. Guru’s Sharan/God’s Sharan is the same since “Wah Wah Satgur Nirankar hai ji antt na paaravar.” (Ang 1421).
Of course the whole idea of being in His Sharan is that you take to Naam.

Guru Ji tells us that we should reflect upon God in His Sharan; this is the same Lord who saved Ganika the prostitute, who had enshrined His Praises in her heart.

“Mann re Prabh ki Sharan bicharo; jeh simrat Ganika si udhree ta ko jass urh dharo.” (rahao).

Remembering Him, Dhru became immortal and ascended to the Plane (avastha) of fearlessness; this Lord and Master who removes suffering in this way (i.e. if you remember Him in simran, sing His Praises), why have you forgotten Him?

“Attal bheyo Dhru ja ke simran aur nirbhay padh paaya; dukh harta eih bidh ko Suami teh kahe bisraeaaya.”

As soon as he held tight to the Sharan of the Ocean of Mercy, the elephant was saved from the crocodile; how can I describe the Glorious Praises of Naam? As one chants the Name of the All Pervading Lord, all his are broken.

“Jab hi Sharan gahi Kirpa Nidh gaj grah te chutaa; mahima Naam kaha lao barno Raam kahat bandhan teh tutaa.”

The world knew Ajamal as a sinner, yet he was saved in an instant; Nanak says, remember the Chintaman – the wish fulfilling Jewel (Naam), and you shall be saved too.

“Ajamal paapi jag jaane nimakh mahe nistara; Nanak kahat chet Chintaman teh bhi utray paara.”

Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji gives 4 examples of persons who were saved by the All Pervading Lord.

Ganika, a prostitute, was saved as she Sang His Praises.

Dhru Bhagat was blessed to be Immortal, as he reached the avastha of fearlessness.

The elephant was saved from the octopus. (The translation on the net repeatedly says crocodile. That is wrong. As you read Mahan Kosh, Bhai Kahn Singh Nabha says Grah or Tandua refers to octopus. In fact in his entry on gajj, Bhai Ji says it is a long standing error by different writers to say crocodile, when it actually refers to octopus).

Ajamal was a Raj Pandit who had fallen into sinful ways. Yet, as he remembered the Lord, Ajamal was saved in an instant.
