Raag Sorath – Bhagat Kabeer (Kabir) Ji’s
Bhagat Ji starts the Shabad by describing the actions of a dishonest person.
He practices great deception and acquires the wealth of others.
“Baho parpanch kar par dhan liaave.”
He squanders the ill gotten gains on his wife and children.
“Sot dara seyo aan lutaave”
Bhagat Ji gives a stern warning. Do not practice deception even inadvertently.
“Man mere bhulay kappatt na kijjay”
Because in the end your jeev (soul) will have to render accounts (for each act of plunder and deceit).
“Antt nobera tere jee peh lijjay” (rahao).
Here Bhagat Ji has made it clear the mann and the jeev are different.
In many other Shabads the mann and the jeev are treated as one because whatever is done by the mann gets etched onto the jeev as a karma.
The dishonest man is warned further that moment by moment the body is wearing away and old age is asserting itself.
“Shin shin tann shijjay jara (old age) janaave”
When you are old and feeble no one will bother to pour water into your cupped hands. (Including the near and dear ones for whom you lied to earn).
“Tab teri oakk koi paneeyo na paave”
Kabir Ji concludes the Shabad by saying no one really belongs to you.
To save yourself why not recite the Lord’s Name while you are still young?
“Kahat Kabir koi nahi tera; hirday Ram ki na japho savera.”
Bhai Ji added on August 13, 2024:
We must not deceive others.
Eventually, your jeev will have to give lekha and endure punishment for all acts of deception.
“Mann mere bhule kapatt na kijje; Antt nibera tere jee peh lijje.”
