All Sikhs read/recite Naam. There comes a time when He Gifts you with Naam. Naam will then stay with you here and hereafter, resolve all your affairs, and do much much more. When Naam is received by Gur Parsad as a Gift, Guru Ji says,
“Kar Kirpa diyo mohe Nama bandhan te chutkaye; mann te bisriyo saglo dhanda Gur Ki Charni laaye. Sadhsang chintt biraani chaadhi; ahumbudh moh mann baasan de kar gadha gandhi.” (Ang 671).
In this Shabad, Guru Ji says one who has Your Name in his heart, is the King (rules over) of hundreds of thousands and millions of beings.
“Kote lakh sarab ko raja jis hirday Naam Tumara.”
Those unfortunate ones who do not get Your Name from the Satguru, are wretched, foolish ones, who die, and are reborn.
“Ja ko Naam na diya mere Satgur se marr janame gavaara.”
It is only the Satguru who can preserve your honor; when he allows you to think of God, you receive Perfect Divine Honor. Forgetting Him, one rolls in the dust.
“Mere Satgur hi patt rakh; cheet aavhe tabh hi patt poori bisrat ralliye khaak.” (Rahao).
The mind indulges in pleasures of physical love and beauty, each bringing blames and sins.
“Roop rang khushian mann bhogan te te chidarr vikàara.”
In contrast, the Lord’s Name is the Treasure of Salvation, and brings absolute poise and peace.
“Har ka Naam Nidhan Kalyana sukh sahaj eh saara.”
The pleasures of maya fade away in an instant, like the shade of a passing cloud.
“Maya rang birung khinne meh jio badar ki chaaiya.”
Those who mèet the Guru (Shabad), Sing Praises of the Lord, become dyed crimson red in the Lord’s Love.
“Se laal bhye gurhe rang raate jin Gur mil Har Har gaaiya.”
The Lord and Master is Lofty, Exalted, Grand and Infinite. His Court is Inaccessible (by physical means – accessed only by Shabad and Gur Parsad).
“Ooch Mooch Apaar Suami Aggam Darbara; through Naam, Nanak says, one gets glorious greatness and respect from the Beloved Lord and Master.
“Naamo Vadiiayi Sobha Nanak Khasam Pyara.”
Bhai Ji elaborated further on December 5, 2025:
Many persons buy titles and other worldly honors. None of these go with you.
It is an inner dignity, Divine Honor bestowed by the Satguru that truly elevates you and abides with you. Hence,
“Mere Satgur hi patt rakh.
