Raag Gauree (Gauri) Bhagat Ravidas Ji.
Bhagat Ji describes himself as a Trader in the Lord’s Name. Fully drenched with love for God, Bhagat Ji even tells Chutra Gupt they can write whatever they please about him, as he is sure he will not be subject to torture by any jamms since he has given up all entanglements of maya. As we read the Shabad, we must remind ourselves that Bhagat Ji is speaking of the inner journey to the Daswa Dwar.
The path to God is tough, mountainous and treacherous, and all I have is this worthless ox (body); I plead to the All Pervading Lord (Rameiya) and to the Destroyer of ego (Murar), to preserve my capital (earnings of Naam).
“Ghat avghat duggar ghana eik nirgun bailh hamaar; Rameiye seyo ik bentee meri punjee rakh Muraar.”
Is there any other merchant of the All Pervading Lord to join me?; my cargo is loaded, and I am ready to leave.
“Ko banjaro Raam ko mera tanda ladiya jaaye re.”( rahao).
I am a Trader of the All Pervading Lord, and I lovingly carry out this trade; I have loaded the Name of the All Pervading Lord, while the world loads up poison. (of maya).
“Hao banjaro Ram ko sahaj karo byapaar; mai Raam Naam dhan ladhiya bikh laadhi sansaar.”
(addressing Chitar Gupt, the scribes),
O you who are aware of this world and the next, you may write any nonsense that may please you; I will not be subjected to the club of torture by the messenger of death, as I have cast off all entanglements. (there is no ego here by Bhagat Ji. It is a state of fearlessness and Divine enlightenment bestowed on Bhagat Ji by the Lord).
“Urvaar paar ke daniya likh leho aal pataal; mohe jamm dandh na laagaye tajiley saggal janjaal.”
Love for this world is like the pale temporary lure and color of the safflower; Ravidas the tanner declares that the color of love for God is crimson red and permanent.
“Jaisa rang kusumbh ka taisa eh sansaar; mere Rameiye rang majith ka kaho Ravidas chamaar.”
