Raag Majh – Bara Maha Majh
SGGS Ji has two fascinating Bara Maha. One by Guru Nanak Dev Ji in Raag Tukhari and the second by Guru Arjun Dev Ji in Raag Majh (133-136).
Bara Maha Majh has 14 padas. An introductory pada followed by Divine reflections on the 12 months and a final 14th pada as a conclusion.
This is the opening of Bara Maha Majh here.
Guru Ji says we are separated from God due to kirat and karam. “Kirat karam ke bichre”. The plea is for His grace to be united with God again. “Kar kirpa melho Raam”
An individual act is a karam. When a series of similar acts are done daily, they form a subaa, a perception and a bent of mind. For example if one does many acts of theft, his kirat becomes his habit and he will have great difficulty extracting himself from his habit. Naam and the Guru’s grace can of course transform his thieving nature.
I have wandered in all four directions. Exhausted, I have now come to Your Sanctuary.
