Raag Devgandhaaree (Devgandhari) M.9

Guru Ji tells us about false worldly loves. Words like “jhuth,” “kurh,” are used to describe these loves. You may sincerely love your spouse or your children. But Gurbani says such love is “jhuth” because it is not everlasting. Only love for God lasts forever.

Guru Ji says I have seen worldly loves to be false; whether they are spouses or friends, they are only concerned with their own happiness.

“Jagat me jhuthi dekhi preet; apne hi sukh seyo sabh laage kya dara kya meet.” (rahao).

All claim you are “mine, mine,” and say they love you from deep within their hearts; at the final moments, none can go with you, such is the strange way of the world.

“Mero mero sabhe kehat hai hit seyo bandhiyo cheet; antt kaal sangi neh kouu eh achraj hai reet.”

The Sikh says, I have a foolish mind which has not reformed itself, and I have become weary of continually instructing it; (the Guru replies). Nanak says, you can cross the terrifying world ocean as you sing Praises of the Lord.

“Man murakh ajhu neh samjat sikh deh hariyo neet; Nanak bhavjal paar bharey jo gaave Prabh ke Geet.”
