Raag Gauree – (Gauri) Sukhmani M.5.
This is the 1st pada of Astpadhi 20.
As Sukhmani unfolds, the Sikh now realises, that he has to do bhagti to reach out to the Lord.
Accordingly, he comes in humility to the Guru, and as a beggar, begs for a Gift; please, in Your Mercy, bless me with God’s Name.
“Jachak jann jache Prabh daan; kar kirpa devho Har Naam.”
I ask for the dust of the feet of the holy (to be allowed to sit in humility in sadhsanggat); O Supreme Lord, please fulfill my yearning.
“Sadh janna ki maango dhur; Parbrahm meri sharda purh.”
May I forever sing the Praises of the Lord; with each and every breath, may I meditate upon You, Lord.
“Sada sada Prabh ke gunn gavho; saas saas Prabh Tumhe dhiaavho.”
May I enshrine love for Your Lotus Feet (Bani); and perform devotional worship (sewa) to God daily.
“Charan Kamal seyo laage preet; bhagat karo Prabh ki nit neet.”
You are my only Shelter, my only Support; Nanak asks for the most Sublime, the Name of the Lord.
“Ek Ote Eko Adhaar; Nanak maange Naam Prabh saar.”
