SGGS Ang 592

Raag Wadhans

Pauri 16.

In SGGS Ji references to Naam are references to God. There is no difference between Naam and God.

We are often told about the Attributes (Gunn) of God. He is Deen Dyal, Patit Paavan, Nirbhao, Nirvair and Beant (of countless Attributes).

In this Pauri, Guru Ji describes the Attributes of Naam. As we look closely, we will notice the Attributes of Naam are the same as Attributes of God, meaning God and Naam are One and the Same.

Guru Ji starts by stressing God’s Naam is his Immortal, Unfathomable, Imperishable Lord, the One who charts your destiny.

“Har Naam hamara Prabh Abhigatt Agochar Abhinasi Purakh Bidhata.”

It is the Lord’s Naam that I serve, and worship, and my mind is drenched with Love for God’s Name.

“Har Naam ham sereveh Har Naam ham pujhe Har Naame hi mann raata.”

I know of no other as Great as the Lord’s Name. It is the Lord’s Name that emancipates me in the end.

“Har Naave jewad koyi avar na sujhe Har Naamo antt chadataa.”

The Kind Generous Guru has gifted me with the Lord’s Name; Blessed Blessed are the Guru’s Father and Mother

“Har Naam diaa Gur Parupkari dhan dhan Guru ka Pita Mata.”

I bow in reverence forever to my Guru; Meeting Him, I have come to know the Lord’s Name.

“Hao Satgur apne ko sada namaskari jit miliye Har Naam mai jataa.”
