Guru Ji tells us of the Curative Nature of Naam. It eradicates the diseases of anger and egotism within us.

Meditate upon the Lotus Feet (Bani) of the Lord, within your mind; the Name of the Lord is Curative and is like an axe which cuts away the diseases caused by anger and egotism.

“Har ke Charan Kamal mann dhiavo; kaadh kothar pitt batt hanta aukhad Har ko Naoo.” (rahao).

“Kothar” means axe. In Punjabi we call it kuadaa.

“Pitt” is a Sanskrit word, and literally means, bile. When we find the body is overly heaty, small blister like marks appear on the skin. In Punjab we say “pitt nikal aaye hai,” indicating the body has so much toxins it has surfaced on to the skin. It is also known as garmi di bimaree. The root cause is believed to be suppressed anger.

“Baat” is a Sanskrit word meaning “vaat” or “hawaa.” It is called “vayu di bimaree.” In Punjabi we call it “vayee.” The root cause is believed to be ahangkaar i.e. your ego. It is common to say an egoistic person is puffed up, full of air.

The Lord removes the three fevers, destroys pain, and is the Abode of Peace; no obstacles can block the path of one who offers his prayers to God.

The three fevers are aadi, biadee and upadee. Aadi is an affliction of the mind. Some people are superstitious. They see a black cat for example and will stay indoors the whole day. If someone sneezes, they take it as a bad omen.

Biadee is any affliction of the body.

Upadee is afflictions or fears caused by outside sources i.e. third parties. Gurbani removes all these three taap and makes you fearless and free from all misconceptions.

“Tinnay taap nivaranharaa dukh hanta sukh raas; ta ko biggan na kouu lagge ja ki Prabh aggay ardas.”

By the Grace of the Saints (Guru), the Lord has become my Physician. He alone is the Doer, the Cause of Causes; He is the Giver of Perfect Peace and Understanding to His child. Nanak has his focus only on the One Lord.

“Sant Parsad Baid Narayan Karan Kaaran Prabh Ek; baal budh Puran Sukhdata Nanak Har Har tek.”
