SGGS Angg 478
Raag Assa
Bhagat Kabir Ji.
Bhagat Ji starts by telling us about Sanak and Sanand.
They were the sons of Brahma born from his mind. They chose to remain as children so they would remain pure and unsullied.
Although only two names are mentioned here, Brahma had four such sons. At Angg 401, Guru Arjun Dev Ji gives their names and says.
“Brahmadak Sanakadak, Sanak, Sanandan Sanaatan, Sanatkumar tin ko Mahal dulbhao”
(Even Brahma and sages like Sanak, his sons Sanak, Sanandan, Sanatan, Sanatkumar could not access the Mansion of the Lord).
There are various sakhis about them. They were overly proud of being sons of Brahma and entered into all kinds of debates. They even cursed the gatekeepers of Vishnu.
Thus Bhagat Ji says Sanak and Sanandan could not find the Lord’s limits (antt nahi paaya).
As for Brahma, he too kept on reading the Vedas (to gain knowledge – and did not recite Naam) and wasted his life doing so.
So, what should be done?
In the rahao, Bhagat Ji says,
“Har ka bilovhna bilovho mere bhai; Sahaj bilovho jaise tatt na jaaiye”
(Churn the Name of the Lord O my brothers; churn it with ease and poise so that the essence is not lost).
Bhagat Ji is using the word “bilovhna” here. It means to churn. To do an act repeatedly with a degree of concentration and peacefully. Naam should be recited lovingly – “savdhaan ekagar cheet” (Sukhmani Sahib) and not manhath.
Bhagat Ji takes the imagery further.
The matki in which this churning of the Lord’s Name is to be done is your own body and the churning stick (madhaani), is your mann.
“Tan kar matkee mann mahe bilohee”
And what is to be gathered in the mann as the churning takes place?
(Iss matkee me Shabad sanjoee).
Remember as many Shabads as you can. They will enrich you no end as you repeat them and reflect upon them.
“Har ka bilovhna mann ka bichara”
As the Guru gets pleased, He blesses you with Gur Parsad.
“Gur Parsad paave amrit dhara”
And, as you get drenched in Naam, and the Lord grants His Glance of Grace.
“Kaho Kabir nadar kare jo Mira” (Mir means King).
“Raam Naam lagg utrey tira”
(Holding fast to the Name of the All Pervading Lord, one is safely carried across the world ocean).
