Raag Assa (Asa) M.1

A Sikh prays to God for His Mercy. The Guru intersperses with Divine advice.

Guru Ji starts with Praise of God. He is the Doer. He is the True, Invisible, Infinite Lord.

“Aap kare Sach Alakh Apaar.”

The Sikh prays. I am a sinner. You are the Forgiver.

“Hao paapi Tu Bakshanhaar.”

In the rahao, Guru Ji declares; Everything comes to pass in Your Will; anyone who acts by forced methods is ruined in the end.

“Tera Bhana sabh kich hovay; manhath kichay antt vighovay.” (rahao).

The intellect of the manmukh is engrossed in falsehood; without meditative remembrance of God he suffers by sinning.

“Manmukh ki matt kurh viapee; bin Har simran paap santapee.”

Guru Ji says renounce evil thoughts and reap some rewards; what is seen (manifest), comes from the Indescribable Mysterious Lord.

“Durmatt tyaag laha kich levho; jo upjay so Alakh Abhevo.”

The Sikh says such is my Friend and Companion; I met the Guru, and the Lord implanted loving devotion within me.

“Aisa hamra Sakha Sahayee; Gur Har miliya bhagat dhrrihaiyee.”

Guru Ji concludes. All other transactions lead to losses; Nanak says the Lord’s Name is pleasing to the mind.

“Saglee saudee totaa aave; Nanak Raam Naam mann bhaave.”
