A fascinating Shabad from Raag Sorath – Guru Arjun Dev Ji.
Guru Ji in His Divinely unique way speaks of the Boundless nature of God and of the Glory of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
The Shabad describes the experience of a Sikh.
It starts by the Sikh expressing awe at the infinite vastness of God’s creation. He is:
“Kot brahmand ko Thakur suami sarab jia ka dataa re”
(He is Lord of millions of universes and Giver of all beings).
In His Bounty, He provides and cherishes all, but the foolish ones do not appreciate any of His Blessings.
“Pritpaley nit saar samaley eik gunn nahi murakh jataa re”
The Sikh says I really do not know how to worship such a Wondrous Lord.
“Har aradh na jaana re”
At best I only repeat Lord Lord, (Vaheguru Vaheguru) and Guru Guru.
“Har Har Gur Gur karta re”
Yet, I am known as Ram dass i.e. Ram da dass, slave of the Lord
“Har jio naam pariyo Ramdass” (rahao).
The Sikh goes into deep contemplation and says I know the Lord to be Compassionate and Merciful, He is the Ocean of Peace and pervades every heart.
“Deen Dyal Kirpal Sukh Saagar sarab ghata bharpuri re”
And although He sees and hears all and is always near me, in my foolishness I used to think He was far away.
“Pekhat sunnat sada hai sange mai murakh janeya duree re”
The Sikh further reflects.
“The Lord is Boundless but I can only describe Him within my limitations. I wonder what will ensue?”
The Sikh now turns to his Satguru.
“I am foolish. Please guide me”
“Karo benti Satgur apne mai murakh deho updeso re”
He is guided and reassured by the Satguru and the Sikh now says,
“I may be just a fool but millions like me have been saved.”
His humble confidence stems from the fact that his Satguru has told him.
“Those who have heard and seen Guru Nanak (through Bani, Vichaar and Gur Parsad) are not put into the womb of reincarnation again.
“Gur Nanak jin suniya pekhiya se fir garbhas na periya re”
