Raag Gaund (Gond) M.5
The Gurus and the Bhagats stressed that God is Nirankaar – without Form. They preached against prayer to any idol or physical image.
The Image of the Satguru is contained in the Guru’s Shabads. Bhai Gurdas Ji in Vaar 24, pauri 11 says:
“Gur Murat Gur Shabad hai..”
In this Shabad, Guru Ji says you should focus on this Image (Shabad) in your mind; you must believe (have faith) in the Mantra of the Guru’s Shabad; enshrine the Guru’s Feet (Bani) in your heart; forever bow in humility before the Guru (Shabad), the Supreme Lord God.
“Gur ki Murat mann me dhyan; Gur keh Shabad Mantar mann maan; Gur keh Charan riday leh dhaaro; Gur Parbrahm sada namaskaro.”
Each Shabad has a “dhun,” a mystical sound current. As you recite the Shabad with your tongue, or in your mind, the dhun of the Shabad resounds within. Your dhyan will slowly (with Gur Parsad), get focussed on this dhun and that leads towards Merger.
“Dhun me dhyan dhyan me jaaneya gurmukh akath kahanee.” (Ang 878).
In the rahao to this Shabad, Guru Ji says let no one be under any deception; no one can cross over without the Guru. (Shabad).
“Mat ko bharam bharam bhuley sansar; Gur bin koye na utrass paar.” (rahao).
The Guru shows the Path to those who have lost their way; He gets them to renounce all else, and puts them on the Path of devotional worship to God; He wipes out the fear of births and deaths; the glorious greatness of the Guru is Infinite.
“Bhulay ko Gur marag paaya; avar tyaag Har bhagti laaya; janam maran ki traas mitayee; Gur Purey ki beantt vadayee.”
By Guru’s Grace, the heart lotus gets inverted (turns away from maya and faces God), and blossoms forth; and the Light shines forth in the darkness (of ignorance); through the Guru you know your True Creator; by the Guru’s Grace the foolish mind now begins to believe. (comes under control).
“Gur Parsad urdh kamal bigaas; andhkaar meh bheya pargass; jin keeya so Gur te jaaneya; Gur Kirpa te mugadh mann maneyaa.”
The Guru (Shabad) is the Creator, the Guru (Shabad) has power to do everything; the Guru (Shabad), the Transcendant Lord was, is, and shall forever be; Nanak says, God has given me this realization; brothers, without the Guru (Shabad), no one can ever find salvation.
“Gur Karta GurKarney jogh; Gur Parmeshar hai bhi hogh; kaho Nanak Prabh eihey janaaiye; bin Gur mukat na paiyeh bhai.”
