One the Shabads we read daily in Rehiras Sahib. Guru Ji tells us that this human life is our chance to Unite with God. Nothing besides Naam is of importance/value on the Spiritual Path.

You have been blessed with a human body; this is your chance to meet the Lord; no other efforts are of any use; join Sadhsanggat and meditate only upon Naam.

“Bheyi parapatt manukh dehoriya; Gobind milan ki eh teri beriya; avar kaaj tere kitte na kaam; milh Sadhsanggat bhaj keval Naam.”

Make efforts to cross over the terrifying world ocean; this human life is passing away in vain, engrossed in the love for maya (persihables, illusion).

“Saranjaam laag bhavjal taran ke; janam birtha jaat rang maya ke.”(rahao).

I have not acquired any merits by recitation (of His Name), nor have I practiced self restraint or austerities, neither have I lived a righteous life; O my Lord King, I have never served the Saints; Nanak says, my actions have been vile and despicable; I have now taken Your Sanctuary. Please preserve my honor.

“Japp tapp sanjam dharam na kamaaiya; sewa Sadh na jaaneiya Har Raiya; kaho Nanak ham neech karama; Sharan pareh ki rakho sharma.”
