Gurbani tells us you become just like whoever you serve.

At Angg 223, Guru Nanak Dev Ji tells us

“Satgur sevey so jogi hoye; bhey rach rahe so Nirbhao hoye; jaisa sevay taiso hoye.”

One who serves the Satguru (Shabad) becomes a united one; immersed in fear of the Fearless One, he becomes fearless; you become just like the One you serve.

In this Shabad, Guru Ji uses the word “meyee” to mean “just like” or “exactly like.”

As you sing the Praises of the Lord, “Gobind Gobind Gobind,” you become just like Gobind (God) Himself.

“Gobind Gobind Gobind meyee.”

From the time I met the Compassionate Saints (Guru), my evil mindedness was driven away.

“Jab te bhetay Sadh Dyaraa tab te durmatt durr bheyee.” (rahao).

The Perfect Lord is perfectly pervading everywhere. He is Calm and Poised, Peaceful and Compassionate; my lust, anger, greed and ego have been eliminated from my body.

“Puran puur rehiyo sampuran sheetal shaant dyall dyee; kaam krodh trishna ahankaraa tann te hoye saggal khayee.”

Truth, contentment, compassion, faith and purity – I have received these from the Teachings (Bani) of the Saints (Guru); Nanak says, one who understands this from the depth of his mind, he gets blessed with full understanding.

“Sat santokh dya dharam such Santan te eh mantt leyee; kaho Nanak jin manho pechaneya tin ko saglee sojh bhayee.”

Bhai Ji further added on October 6, 2024 that:

The word “meyi” is central to this Shabad. Meyi means to become just like the one you serve.
Thus, “Gobind Gobind Gobind meyi” means continuous sewa of the Lord (Gobind Gobind Gobind) led to the Sikh being the very Embodiment of Godly Attributes (Gunn, Naam)

As the Guru (Sadh) was Merciful to me, my evil mindedness was driven far away.
“Jab te bhete Sadh Dyara tabh te durmatt duur bheyi.”

The Lord is Perfect, Pervading Completely Everywhere. He blessed me with His Compassion and rendered me cool, calm and poised.
“Puran Puur Rehiyo Sampuran Seetal Shaant Dyal deyi.”
