SGGS Angg 795.
Raag Bilaaval M.1
Guru Nanak Dev Ji speaks to God within himself. We are encouraged to speak to God within ourselves too.
“Har Naave naal gallan Har Naave naal maslatt Har Naam hamari karda nitt saara.” (Ang 592).
(I converse with the Lord’s Name, I discuss my issues with Him, He always guides and cherishes me).
It takes lots of effort through loving simran, and Gur Parsad, for the Lord to speak to you. In the initial stages, you will often find it is your haumai which speaks to you, and misleads you.
“Mann kya kehta hao kya kehta.” (Ang 823).
In this Shabad, Guru Ji declares my mind is my temple, and my body is the garb of a humble seeker – I bathe deep within myself (cleanse myself), at the sacred shrine; as the Shabad (Naam) of the One Lord abides in my being, I shall not come to be born again.
“Mann mandar tann vess kalandar ghat hi tirath naava; Ek Shabad mere pran bassat hai bahurh janam na aava.”
My mind has been pierced through by the Merciful Lord O my mother; who can know the pain of another?; I have no thoughts of any other (besides the Lord).
“Mann bedhiya Dyal seti meri mayee; kaun jaane chintt prayee; ham nahi chintt prayee.” (rahao).
O Inaccessible, Unfathomable, Invisible and Infinite Lord, please take care of me; in water, land and sky, You are perfectly pervading. Your Light is in each and every heart.
“Aggam Agochar Alakh Apaara chinta karo hamari; jall thall mahiyal bharpur leena ghat ghat Jote Tumari.”
All Teachings, Instructions and Understandings are Yours, including the Temples and Sanctuaries; Besides You, I know of no other O Lord and Master, I continually sing Your Praises.
“Sikh matt sabh budh Tumari mandar shaava Tere; Tujh bin avar na jaana mere Sahiba gunn gaavan nitt Tere.”
All beings and creatures seek Your Sanctuary; all thoughts of their care rests with You; it is Nanak’s daily prayer (I accept Your Will), that whatever You do, is a blessing.
“Jee jantt sabh Sharan Tumari sarab chintt Tudh paasey; jo Tudh bhaave soyee changa nitt Nanak ki ardasey.”
Bhai Ji further elaborated on November 26, 2024:
As Guru Amardas Ji tells us the commitment to Naam in the mind must be with single minded love.
“Hao Satgur sevi apna Eik mann Eik chit bhaye.” (Ang 26).
Again, at Angg 653, Guru Ji says,
“Eh mann Har Ji dhiaye tu Eik mann Eik chit bhaye.”
We must consciously abandon all other teks and aasras.
In this Shabad by Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the same Divine Teaching is expressed. Lord, besides You, I know of no other. I continually Sing only Your Glorious Praises.
“Tudh bin avar na jaana mere Sahiba Gunn gaavha nit Tere.”
Kalandar refers to a Sufi Saint who has risen above worldly bondages and spreads the Message of Divine Love to all mankind.
In this Shabad , Guru Ji says my mann is a mandir, a temple to worship God. (mann mandir). My body has become the dress of a Kalandar, an unconventional Sufi Saint. (tann ves Kalandar). I now bathe and purify myself with Naam within my inner being. (ghat hi tirath naava).
The Shabad of the Divine One is now enshrined in my life breath, and I shall not have to come back again in reincarnation.
(Ek Shabad mere pran bassat hai bahurh janam na aava).
The Merciful Lord has pierced my mind. (Mann bedhiya Dyal seti meri maayi).
Who can ever know the pains which are endured by others? (kaun jaane peerh paraaiyee).
This line is also interpreted as “who can ever know the degree of pain you will endure if you enshrine Love for others besides the Lord.”
Then comes the final line of Rahao. I think of none other than the One Lord. (Ham nahi chintt paraaiyee).
