Raag Gauree – Pauri no 11 Gauri Ki Vaar M.5
There are lots of false saints. They lay claim to spirituality, but are in truth, “Benares ke thugh” as Bhagat Kabir Ji says.
In this Shabad, Guru Ji tells us of some distinguishing signs of a True Saint.
This is a distinguishing mark of a True Saint – by meeting him, one is saved; you find the messenger of death (miseries) does not come near you and one never has to die again.
“Eh nishanee Sadh ki jis bhetat tariye; jamkankar nerh na aavaiye firr bahurh na mariye.”
(In the company of such a Saint) One crosses over the terrifying poisonous world ocean; you weave the garland of the Lord’s Praises (the True Saint puts you to Naam), in your mind and all your filth is washed away.
“Bhav saagar sansaar bikh so paar utariye; Har gunn gunfo mann mal Har sabh malh parhariye.”
Nanak says the Sikh remains blended with the Beloved Powerful Lord.
“Nanak Pritam milh rahey Parbrahm Narhariye.”
