Raag Assa – Sheikh Fareed Ji.

This Shabad has some Persian words. In the Persian Language, there is no direct word for mind or mann.

The words used are “zehn,” which means thought
“Akal” is used in Persian for intellect.
“Maghz” refers to brain, rather than mind.

The closest word for mind or mann, in Persian is “dil,” which refers to the seat of all emotive thought. Dil can also refer to heart in Persian, as emotions are said to be rooted in the heart.

Sheikh Fareed Ji speaks about love for God. He also prays to be gifted with bandagi.

They alone are genuine who have love for God in their hearts; those who harbor thoughts different from what they say with their mouths, are judged to be false.

“Dilho mohabat jin seyi sacheya; jin mann hor mukh hor se kandey kacheya.”

Those who are drenched with love for God are delighfully blessed with His Vision; those who forget His Naam are a burden upon the earth.

“Ratey ishq Khudaye rang deedar ke; visreya jin Naam te bhoye bhaar thiye.” (Rahao).

Those whom the Lord attaches to the Hem of His Robe (Naam), are the true dervishes (Saints); blessed are their mothers who gave birth to them, and fruitful is their coming to this world.

“Aap liye larh laaye Dar darvesh se; tin dhan janedi maoo aaye safal se.”

O Lord, Sustainer and Cherisher of the world, You are Infinite, Unfathomable, and Endless; those who recognize the True Lord – I kiss their feet.

“Parvadigar Apaar Aggam Beant Tu; jinna pachata Sach chumaa pair mu.”

I seek Your Protection; You are the Forgiving Lord; please bless Sheikh Fareed with the Bounty of Your meditative Worship.

“Teri Penahe Khudai Tu Bakshandgee; Sheikh Fareede khair dijjay bandagee.”
