These are two Shantts. The imagery of the bride soul is used extensively in SGGS Ji.
In a Punjabi wedding, prior to the marriage it is common for relatives of the bride to sing songs of joy and poke gentle fun about the impending marriage.
When these songs are sung by the bridegroom’s side these songs are called ghodian.
Guru Ramdas Ji has written Ghodian drawing the imagery that the human body is a mare. It has been saddled with Shabads, bridled with gurmat and guided on it’s path with Gurbani while conquering the inner passions.
There are two sets of Ghodian in SGGS Ji.
The 1st set starts by saying the body is a ghodi created by God.
“Deh tejan ji Ram upaaeiya Ram”
Guru Ji starts the 2nd set of Ghodian by declaring the body mare (ghodi), is always fresh and new in colour as it takes wisdom from the Guru.
“Deh tejanri Har nav rangiya Ram; Gur gyan Guru Har mangiya Ram”
“Manas janam vad punne paia deh so kanchan changria”
“Gurmukh rang chlula pavai Har Har Har nav rangria”
“Eh deh o banki jit Har japi Har Har Nam suhavia”
“Vadhbagi pai Nam sakhai jan Nanak ram upaia.”
