Guru Ji tells us of maya. It is dangerous. Although maya it is not a physical being yet it can devour you without any teeth.

Only Naam will alert you of the dangers of maya. In Anand Sahib Guru Ji says maya is:
“Eh maya jit Har visray moh upjay bhaoo dujja laaya” (pauri 29).

Maya is all things perishable. The unseen passions like greed, lust, anger are all part of maya. Any indulgence in maya will result in karmic baggage. Only Naam and His Grace can wipe out karmas.

Without Naam the world wanders about quite mad; the gurmukh see through the deception of maya.

“Bin naave jag kamla firay gurmukh nadri aaya.”

Maya is very attractive and enticing as it panders to the passions. Although it is without teeth maya has eaten the world.

“Maya mamta mohni jin vin dantaa jag khaaya.”

Bhai Ji elaborated on October 20, 2024:

The world struts around quite mad, driven by kaam krodh, haumai and other vikaars.

The gurmukh however, becomes aware of this foolish behaviour of the world. The gurmukh becomes awakened by Gurbani.

Thus, it is most important to constantly read Bani, do satsanggat, and sewa of the Satguru. As time goes on, the Satguru (Shabad) will take over your consciousness and make you sensitive, and aware of your surroundings.

Bhai Ji added on December 26, 2025:

The only saving grace is Naam.
Take to Naam with single minded purpose.

Without Naam, when lekhas are taken, you will realise you were acting quite mad.

In this Shabad, Guru Ji tells us the world is insane because it does not have Naam (Godliness, Attributes of God).

Without Naam maya roams about unchecked. Maya is very attractive. It entices you and your attraction to maya will result in you being devoured by maya although it has no teeth, (i.e. maya will eat you in very subtle ways).

“Maya mamtaa mohnee jin vin dantaa jag khaeyaa.”

The manmukhs are eaten, while the gurmukhs who love Naam deeply are saved.

“Manmukh khadey gurmukh ubrey jinni Sach Naam chit laeaya.”

Without Naam, the world wanders around insane; the gurmukhs see (realise) this.

“Bin Naave jag kamlaa firey gurmukh nadree aaiya.”

(the manmukh), Involved in worldly pursuits, he wastes his life in vain. He has never enshrined the Peace Giving Lord in his mind.

“Dhanda karteiyan nifall janam gavaeyaa Sukhdataa man na vasaeiyaa.”

Nanak says Naam is received by those who have a pre ordained destiny. (i.e. they have been doing kamayee of Naam, and sewa. In His Grace, He writes such a person will one day be Gifted with Naam).

“Nanak Naam tinna ko miliyaa jin ko Dhur Likh paaya.”
