SGGS Angg 193.
Raag Gauree (Gauri) M.5.
Guru Arjun Dev Ji advises our mann to meditate upon the One Lord.
As you remember Him your “balaee”, literally witch of misfortune shall be taken away.
“Har simrat teri jaaye balaee”.
And joy will come to abide in your mind.
“Sarab kalyaan vassay mann aaye”
Guru Ji stresses loving remembrance again in the rahao.
“Bhaj mann mere eko Naam”.
This eko Naam is very useful to the jeev (soul).
“Jee tere ke aave kaam” (rahao).
These Praises of the Infinite One should be sung day and night.
“Rain dinass gunn gavho anantaa”.
You obtain these Shabads from the Guru.
“Gur Purey ka nirmal mantaa”
Abandon all other devices (to reach the Lord); Have your tek firmly etched in One Naam and you will taste the greatest treasure of Amrit.
“Shodh upaav ek tek raakh: maha padarth amrit rass chaakh”
As you sing His Praises, if you are fortunate enough to get His glance of Grace, you cross the treacherous world ocean.
“Bikham saagar teyee jan tarey; Nanak ja ko nadar karey”
Bhai Manjeet Ji further adds on September 9, 2024:
The word “balaa” appears quite a few times in SGGS Ji. It means witch. It is a reference to maya. Maya is witch like and entices you in many ways. It comes in many forms. It disguises itself as a chaste, beautiful wife; wears anklets which emit a soft tinkling sound.
“Sohagan hai att sundari; pagg naverr shanak shanhari.” (Ang 872).
So long as there is life in the mortal, she clings close to him. “Jao lagg pran tau lagg sanghe. ”
She abandons him and runs away barefoot as soon as he loses his body.
“Nahi ta chali begh uthh nange”
This balaa which clings onto all mortals, literally sucking away their life blood, can be removed by simran upon God (God is Niranjan, beyond maya)
Thus Guru Ji says
“Har simran teri jaaye balaaiye.”
In it’s place, all joy will come to abide in your mind.
“Sarab kalyan vasse mann aaiye.”
One should not do simran on anything with akaar. Simran should be on Eko Naam, which in essence is Nirankar Ji, Himself. This simran is food for the soul, your jeev.
“Bhaj mann mere Eko Naam; jee tere ke aavhe kaam.”
