Raag Basant M.3
The Spring season lasts for 2 months in India. Among the seasons, it is considered the best. There is lots of vapour in the air. It is slightly chilly, but not the biting cold of frostbite. The sun peeps in once a while. There is a nip in the air, and flowers bloom. Greenery and colour starts to brighten the landscape. Altogether, the most pleasant of seasons, with a perfect balance of rejuvenating nature.
The Gurus and Bhagats have used Basant rutt to describe the ideal avastha of a Saintly person. But his avastha does not last only two months, like the outer season. His is “sadh Basant,” an eternal inner Spring season.
In this Shabad, God Himself is described as the Eternal Spring Season, forever in blossom.
Throughout the months and seasons, the Lord is always in bloom; He rejuvenates all beings and creatures; what can I, a mere worm, say; no one has found Your beginning or Your end, Lord.
“Maha rutti meh sadh Basant; jit hareya sabh jee jantt; kya hao aakhan kiram jantt; tera kinneh neh paaya aad antt.”
Those who serve You, Lord; obtain the greatest peace and their inner beings are in bliss.
“Teh Sahib ki karhe sev; param sukh paavhe aatam dev.” (rahao).
Only by Your Grace can one serve You; by the Grace of the Guru, such a one remains dead, while alive; night and day he chants the True Name; in this way, the mortal crosses the treacherous world ocean.
“Karam hovay ta sewa kare; Gur Parsadi jivat mare; andinn Sach Naam uchre; ein bidh prani duttar tare.”
The Creator made both poison and nectar; He attached these fruits to the world plant; He Himself is the Doer, and the Cause; As it pleases Him, He feeds (nectar or poison – Naam or maya).
“Bhikh amrit Kartar upaaiye; sansar birkh ko doye falh laaye; Aape Karta kare karaaiye; jo Tis bhave tissay khavaye.”
Nanak says, when He casts His Glance of Grace; He Himself bestows His Ambrosial Naam; the desire for maya gets annulled; the Lord carries out His Own Will.
“Nanak jis no nadar kare; Amrit Naam Aape deh; bikhiya ki baasna maneh kare; Apna Bhana Aap kare.”
