Raag Ramkali – Bhagat Ravidas Ji.

Bhagat Ji tells us why it is so difficult to get Darshan.

Many people read, even reflect upon and listen to God’s Name, yet they fail to get intuitive Darshan of the Lord, full of Love; (the reason is), how can iron be transformed into purified (hiren) gold (kanchan), unless it touches the Philosopher’s Stone? (how can the base iron like mind be transformed into something pure and precious, unless it is purified by the Guru’s Shabad? The Shabad must actually touch your surat i.e. there must be real deep emotion felt within you, as the Shabad affects you.
(Ang 938 – “Surat Shabad bhav sagar tariye Nanak Naam vakhaney.”)

“Parhiye gunniye Naam sabh sunniye Anvhao Bhao na Darsey; loha kanchan hiren hoye kaisey jao paarsey na parsey.”

The Sikh cries out to the Guru/God, in despair. O Divine Lord, I cannot free myself from the knot of the restless mind; lust, anger, intoxication of maya (lobh,moh), jealousy, these five have joined hands to plunder me (the world).

“Dev, sahansey gaanth na chutey; kaam krodh maya madh matsar ein pancho milh lutey.” (rahao).

(In my mind, these thoughts keep on pounding), I am a great poet, of noble heritage, I am a pandit (learned scholar), a jogi (my ego makes me think I am united with God), a sanyasee (detached from worldly temptations); (I think), I am spiritually knowledgeable, a warrior and a great donor – such thinking never ends.

“Ham badh kabh kuleen ham pandit ham jogi sanyasee; gyani gunni sur ham datey eh bodh kabhe na nasee.”

Ravidas says, all do not understand and they run around deluded, like madmen; the Lord’s Name is my only Support. He is my life, my very breath and all my wealth.

“Kaho Ravidas sabhe nahi samjass bhull parey jaisey baurey; mohe adhaar Naam Narayan jiwan pran dhan morey.”
