Raag Suhi M.5
There are two rahaos in this Shabad. The first rahao describes a pretender. He claims to be close to God, but is nowhere near.
The second rahao speaks of the blessed ones who receive His Darshan.
Guru Ji starts with the pretender. He asks for all kinds of blessings, but has done no real sewa to attract His Grace. Outwardly however, he claims to have ascended to the Lord’s Mansion. (Daswa Dwar)
“Sewa thori maangan bahuta; Mahal na paave kehto pahota.”
He imitates those who have been accepted by the Lord; such is his foolish stubborn behaviour.
“Jo Pria maane tin ki reesa; kurhe murakh ki haatheesa.” (rahao).
He wears religious garb, but does not practice Truth; claims to be resident at the Lord’s Palace, but is in truth not even nearby.
“Bhekh dikhave Sach na kamaavhe; kehto Mahali nikatt na aave.”
He is intoxicated by maya, but claims to be totally detached; he has no love for God in his mind, but claims to be coloured in His Love.
“Ateet sadaaiye maya ka maata; mann nahi preet kahe mukh raata.”
Instead of his false claims, he should pray to God thus.
Says Nanak, please listen to my prayer, Lord – please liberate me. I am filthy, stubborn and full of lust.
“Kaho Nanak Prabh binho sunijay; kuchal kathor kaami mukat kijjay.”
And when he is truly blessed with Darshan, he would quietly exclaim to himself.
I gaze upon Your Glorious Vision; You are the Giver of Peace, the Loving Primal Lord, diffused in all.
“Darshan dekhay ki vadiaaiye; Tum Sukhdatey Purakh Subhaaiye.” (rahao dujja).
